MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin NewsMedia Association has entered into an agreement with the Wisconsin Community Papers (WCP) under which the WCP will dissolve as an organization and transfer its assets, programs and operations to the Wisconsin NewsMedia Association.
The agreement marks the conclusion of WCP’s longstanding service as Wisconsin's trade association for free-distribution community papers. Upon dissolution, all remaining assets, educational programming, member services and organizational responsibilities of the WCP will be assumed by the Wisconsin NewsMedia Association.
The transition is intended to ensure that Wisconsin's free-distribution community papers continue to receive strong advocacy, professional education and industry support through a statewide organization representing both print and digital news media.
The Wisconsin Community Papers Association has served Wisconsin's free-distribution publications for decades. Often referred to as community papers or shoppers, these publications provide local advertising, public information and community news to households throughout the state and remain an important marketing resource for Wisconsin businesses.
The Wisconsin NewsMedia Association represents newspapers, digital news organizations and other local news publishers throughout Wisconsin. Through legislative advocacy, legal support, professional development, networking and business services, the association works to strengthen independent local journalism and community publishing across the state.
