Google to guarantee billions for Anthropic's lease of data centers

Advertisers should soon have plenty of energy to run ad campaigns and projects related to advancing artificial intelligence (AI).

A consortium of banks led by Morgan Stanley reportedly will lend $15 billion to Nexus Data Centers, a Texas-based privately held developer of large-scale, AI-ready data-center campuses. The company will build a campus in Hubbard, Texas.

Google has provided guarantees for billions of dollars of Anthropic’s lease and power-payment obligations in the event that the startup defaults, reported The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter.

The Texas facility would provide Anthropic with four data center leases. The facility would have its own natural-gas power plant capable of generating 1.6 gigawatts of electricity. The WSJ reported that the deal could be announced as soon as today.
