David Chivers, a former president and publisher of the Des Moines Register and a digital journalism and AI consultant, died Jan. 1 in Des Moines.
A husband and father of two, Chivers, 50, was an innovator in his field and beloved by friends in Iowa and around the globe. He also struggled with mental health issues, his wife Theresa said on Tuesday, Jan. 6. He died by suicide.
“Our family is grieving the loss of my husband, David. He was a devoted father and a deeply thoughtful, curious, and loving person,” she wrote in a statement. “This remains an immense loss for our family and friends. We are grateful for the kindness we have received and respectfully ask for privacy as we grieve.”
