TRENTON, Mo. — The Media Division of CherryRoad® is proud to announce that the Trenton Telegraph officially launched, publishing its first issue on Sept. 12. The newspaper will serve Trenton and surrounding Grundy County with hyperlocal coverage of area schools and youth sports, town government, community events, business news and more.

“As mayor, I began corresponding with CherryRoad CEO Jeremy Gulban last year to share our local story and hopes for a publication rooted in community,” said Trenton Mayor Jackie Soptic. “I’m delighted to see that vision come to life with the launch of the Trenton Telegraph. CherryRoad’s model blends local presence with digital tools and remote collaboration, enabling high-quality coverage while building local jobs and advertising opportunities.”

CherryRoad Media owns and operates 18 newspapers in Missouri — including the Chillicothe Constitution-Tribune — and more than 90 titles nationwide. The Trenton Telegraph is staffed locally and supported by CherryRoad’s distributed production network, which collaborates digitally to produce both print and digital editions.

“Launching a new paper in today’s environment is both rare and remarkable,” said Jeremy Gulban, CEO of CherryRoad. “We’re honored to partner with Trenton, Mayor Soptic and others in the community to invest in Trenton’s future. Our team is excited to put local news into the hands of the citizens it serves, leveraging our industry-leading digital publishing infrastructure and operational expertise to put the Trenton Telegraph on the path to success.”

What readers saw in the first issue

The Sept. 12 debut showcased the kind of meaningful, local storytelling the Telegraph will deliver each week, spearhead by community storyteller and Trenton native, Gabe Stark. Coverage included:

  • A front-page essay, “A New Beginning,” introducing the Telegraph’s mission to tell the community’s stories.
  • A feature on North Central Missouri College’s centennial celebration, which included the opening of its year 2000 time capsule.
  • Back-to-school coverage highlighting Trenton High School students and activities.
  • The launch of “Trenton Tales” by Julie Hill Lehr, a recurring column spotlighting the people, places and events that make Trenton a great place to live and work.

To introduce the Telegraph, a free print edition is being delivered weekly for four weeks so residents can explore its content. Following that period, the Telegraph will offer affordable print and digital subscriptions. A companion website also provides additional local news and digital advertising opportunities for area businesses.

“We believe the community will rally behind this new venture,” added Mayor Soptic.

With the Trenton Telegraph, the community gains not just a newspaper, but a platform for connection, accountability and economic development that is anchored in local ownership and delivered with modern tools and seasoned experience.
