A recent soon to be published research study by Dr. M. Charlotte Oliver, acknowledged that both spirituality and religiosity are influential in the understanding of the developmental process of resilience. Adhering to spirituality and not necessarily religion, ranked higher in obtaining and building resilience. The finding that spirituality plays a significant role in generating resilience was supported.
From community perspectives, here are some suggestions on spirituality’s role in building resilience as considered:
- Respect the spiritual identity of every community member
- Helping organizations should offer holistic resources to assist every community member
- Take time to listen to the general needs of each community member
- Keep a list of additional resources to share with community members when needed
